What is drain jetting?

Water at high pressure, aimed at the build-up.

A specialist hose with a jetting nozzle is fed into the drain. Water leaves the nozzle at high pressure, scouring the inside of the pipe and flushing the loosened waste away.

It cleans the full width of the pipe rather than just punching a hole through a blockage.

Recognise the problem

When jetting may be appropriate.

Jetting is effective for build-up and debris. It isn’t the answer for every blocked drain.

  1. 01

    Grease deposits

Fat and grease that has hardened on kitchen drain walls.

  2. 02

    Scale build-up

Mineral deposits narrowing the pipe over time.

  3. 03

    Silt and debris

Leaves, grit and silt washed into the system.

  4. 04

    Stubborn blockages

Obstructions that haven’t shifted with basic clearance.

  5. 05

    Some recurring blockages

Where build-up, rather than damage, is the cause.

  6. 06

    Drain cleaning

Cleaning out a drain to help restore a good flow.

How it works

Scour the pipe. Flush it clear.

The nozzle’s jets push it along the drain while spraying the pipe walls. Grease, scale and silt are broken off and carried downstream with the flow.

Once finished, we check the drain is running freely before we leave.

Choosing the method

Jetting or basic clearance?

Both have their place. The right choice depends on what is in the pipe and where.

  1. 01

    Drain rodding

A straightforward way to clear many blockages close to an access point.

    Accessible blockages

  2. 02

    High-pressure jetting

Cleans build-up from the pipe walls along the length of the drain.

  3. 03

    CCTV inspection

Used first when the cause isn’t clear or damage is suspected.

    Where diagnosis is needed

Jetting cleans a pipe. It doesn’t repair one.

If a drain is cracked or collapsed, jetting won’t fix it — and we’ll tell you so.

Diagnosis first

When we look before we jet.

If a drain keeps blocking or damage is suspected, a camera inspection shows what is going on before any jetting starts. That way the method fits the problem.

Recurring blockages

Keeps blocking?

Repeated build-up can be a sign of something in the pipe catching waste.

When jetting is needed again and again, the cause may be:

  • Root ingress
  • Damaged pipework
  • Displaced joints
  • Poor pipe fall

These can only be confirmed by inspecting the drain.

Common questions

Drain jetting questions.

A hose with a specialist nozzle sprays water at high pressure inside the pipe, breaking up build-up and flushing it away.

It is effective for grease, scale, silt and general debris that has built up inside the pipe.

No. Some blockages are cleared more simply by rodding, and jetting won’t repair a damaged pipe. We recommend the method that suits the drain.

Jetting is a standard cleaning method, but pipes that are already badly damaged may need inspecting first. Where we have concerns, we check before jetting.

It cleans out build-up, which can help. If the drain keeps blocking, there may be an underlying cause such as roots or damage that needs investigating.

Yes. We check the drain is flowing properly before we leave.
